Educationist and a scientist of international repute, Prof. Aderemi Abass Adedibu has been appointed the National Coordinator for Nigeria by TURAN, the organizer of TURAN Math Olympiad (TRN 2026).
The letter conveying the appointment signed by the Chairman and Organizer of the competition, Mardangeldi Bayramov with Ref. No: TRN/INT/2026/NC-01 explained that the appointment was made in recognition of his experience and dedication to Mathematics education.
According to the letter, “The International TURAN Math Olympiad aims to bring together talented students from different countries in order to promote excellence in Mathematics, foster international academic cooperation and encourage young minds to develop advanced analytical and ptoblem- solving skills”.
As the National Coordinator for Nigeria, Prof. Adedibu as stated in the letter “is expected to be responsible for the promotion of the Olympiad among schools and academic institutions in Nigeria and coordinate the registration and participation of students and schools”.
Also, by virtue of the appointment, he will “serve as the official liaison between the Nigeria participants and the international organizing committee and support the smooth organization of the Olympiad activities within his country
“We are confident that your experience and dedication to Mathematics education will significantly contribute to the success of the Olympiad and inspire many talented students to participate in this international academic event”, the letter added.
In the meantime, invitation has been sent to students and schools in Nigeria to participate in the Third International TURAN Math Olympiad (TRN 2026) to take place next month, April 2026.
The TURAN Math Olympiad, the invitation says, “is an international academic competition designed to bring together outstanding students from different countries to compete in Mathematics, exchange knowledge and strengthen international educational collaboration.
“Participants will have the opportunity to join the Olympiad through online participation for international students and offline participation for students attending the event in person”, the invite further explained.
The internationally recognized scholar and the scion of the late strong man of Ibadan politics, late High Chief Lamidi Ariyibi Akanji Adedibu trained in the United States (US) as a Chemistry and Mathematics scholar and worked as a civil servant in Nigeria till 2013 when he gracefully bowed out as a Director in the Federal Ministry of Education.
