LAGOS, Nigeria – The Squash Section of the prestigious Lagos Country Club has successfully staged the third edition of the Geophase Annual Closed & Club Pro Tournament, celebrating the enduring excellence of Nigeria’s squash professionals, both past and present.
Held from February 9 to 13, 2026, the five-day competition brought together former professional players who once made a living from the sport and are now active members of squash clubs nationwide. The tournament delivered high-quality matches and reaffirmed its growing status on Nigeria’s squash calendar.

Sponsored by Geophase Resources Limited, the event underscored the company’s commitment to supporting squash development in the country. Speaking at the closing ceremony, Managing Director Waliu Kayode Adeolu emphasized the importance of honoring veterans who have contributed significantly to Nigeria’s presence in the sport.

The tournament featured several competitive categories with thrilling finals across the board.
In the Club Pro category, Wasiu Bello clinched the title after defeating Stephen Peters in a fiercely contested final.

Dr. Bunmi Apata emerged champion in the Men’s category, narrowly overcoming Dayo Tifase to secure the top prize.
The Veteran category saw Alaga Mike Adekoya lift the trophy after beating Murphy Yussuf in the final showdown.
Meanwhile, Kola Adeyemi claimed victory in the Plate category, triumphing over Marvin Ukperegbu.
Chairman of the Squash Section, Sesan Asani, expressed appreciation to the sponsors for their steadfast backing despite prevailing economic challenges.
“This year’s edition recorded improved participation and a higher standard of play compared to previous editions. We are optimistic that the tournament will continue to expand and strengthen in the years ahead,” he noted.
