OYSIEC promises to abide by rules, guidelines of LG election

As the people of Oyo State look forward to the 29th December, 2026 date scheduled for another round of Local Governments and councillorship elections in the state, the electoral agency saddled with the responsibility of conducting the election, Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) has promised to follow the rules and guidelines of the process to the letter.

OYSIEC Chairman, Dr. Babatunde Adeniyi gave this assurance while playing host to the members of the executive committee of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Oyo State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) led by Comrade Yinka Adeniran at his Agodi office.

With this promise, a Commissioner in the Commission, Mr. Remi Ayoade called on all political parties in the state to participate in the forthcoming exercise as being scheduled.

The Chairman also assured that with the determination abide by the rules and guidelines of the electoral process, the Commission would deliver a credible election that would be acceptable by all political parties and citizens of the state.

According to him, “all the processes leading to the election are in top gear, we will ensure to comply with all relevant laws and conduct a credible election that will be acceptable to all”.

Dr. Adeniyi therefore solicited for the support of the media and political parties in the state to be able to deliver on the Commission’s mandate and as well address the issue of voter apathy that usually characterized local government elections in the state.

He expressed appreciation to the media for the support they have been giving to him in the past before assuming office as the chairman of the Commission with a promise to leverage on it, saying, “this visit will not be taken for granted, media practitioners have done well as the bridge between the rulers and the followers.

“You have really assisted us with your adequate and balanced reportage, we are happy and grateful for your constant support. The activities of the election have commenced and there is no way we will be able to deliver a transparent and credible election without your support”, he added.

Speaking earlier, Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel of Oyo NUJ, Comrade Yinka Adeniran described OYSIEC Chairman as a unionist who has won many battles for the good of the downtrodden before.

He remarked that unionism in Adeniyi would bring about a radical change to the Commission and pledged the commitment of the Chapel members to support him to achieve result, adding, “we believe in your ability to deliver a credible and fair election and deepen democracy at the grassroots for the good of the state”.
