FG tinkering with replacing Common Entrance Exam with CA for JSS admission

The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa has disclosed the plan by the Federal Government (FG) to phase out the annual common entrance examination for pupils moving from primary school to Junior Secondary School (JSS).

Instead, the common entrance examination will be replaced by a Continuous Assessment (CA) system, which will reflect a pupil’s performance from primary one and travel with them even if they transfer schools according to the Minister.

He made this disclosure during an interactive session with journalists in Lagos, saying, “it will be replaced by Continuous Assessment, CA. The CA will reflect the performance of the pupil from primary one, and even if a pupil is transferring from one school to another, he will take it along to his new school”.

Alausa also highlighted that “the government is introducing a Learner Identification Number (LIN) for all school children from primary level, enabling authorities to track students’ academic progress and ensure higher completion rates as pupils advance to senior secondary school”.

The government, according to him “is working to revive the school feeding programme, which will be moved from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to the Federal Ministry of Education for proper monitoring, as part of efforts to attract more pupils to public schools”.
