The Elders of the Gongola Peoples in Adamawa State have issued a stern rejection of what they describe as covert moves within the All Progressives Congress (APC) to impose a governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Monday, Mr. Markus Gundiri, speaking for the group representing ethnic nationalities from the defunct Gongola region, sounded a clear warning: any attempt to sidestep internal democracy in choosing the party\u2019s standard bearer will be met with stiff resistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While reaffirming their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu\u2019s administration and the APC\u2019s national agenda, the elders drew a firm line against what they called \u201cundemocratic imposition\u201d at the state level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe will not accept, tolerate, or allow any form of imposition on our people,\u201d the group declared. \u201cSuch tendencies are an affront to internal party democracy and a dangerous slide toward political authoritarianism.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They insisted that the party\u2019s governorship candidate must emerge through a transparent, free, and fair primary process, cautioning that any manipulation could severely damage the APC\u2019s electoral prospects in Adamawa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His words:”All aspirants must be given a level playing field. Whoever emerges must do so through the genuine choice of party members and delegates\u2014not through the dictates of a powerful few”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The elders further warned that sidelining stakeholders and ethnic blocs within the state could spark widespread backlash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cImposition only breeds resentment, weakens the party, and ultimately guarantees defeat at the polls,\u201d they cautioned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Calling on APC leaders at both national and state levels to uphold internal democracy, the group emphasized that fairness, credibility, and inclusiveness remain non-negotiable for the party\u2019s stability and success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They concluded by reaffirming their commitment to justice, equity, and the empowerment of the people, urging all political actors to respect democratic norms as the road to 2027 gathers momentum.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
