A 25- year old young man, Rilwan Raifu suspected to be a robber has been arrested by the Osun Amotekun Corps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Charged in connection with an alleged armed robbery operation in Ororuwo community, Boripe Local Government Area of the state, he was apprehended on Sunday following a swift response by operatives of the Corps attached to the Boripe Command.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday by the Corps’ spokesperson, Yusuf Idowu Abass, the suspect was said to be an indigene of Osogbo residing in Lagos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Abass explained that the arrest was made after a distress call from residents who alerted security authorities to the activities of suspected armed robbers in the area, prompting immediate mobilisation of Amotekun personnel to the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He noted that the suspect was apprehended on the spot, while other members of the gang escaped and are currently at large, adding that efforts are ongoing to track and arrest the fleeing suspects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said, “preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly confessed to participating in the crime, claiming it was his first involvement in robbery”, adding, “the suspect disclosed that an associate identified as \u201cSmall,\u201d who is still at large, lured him into the act and facilitated his movement from Lagos to Ororuwo”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Recovered items from the suspect according to Abass include a short Dane gun, a stick, and a mask, stressing that the Corps Commander, Dr Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, commended residents of Ororuwo for their prompt and proactive response, which contributed to the success of the operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The commander also praised the professionalism of the operatives involved and reaffirmed the Corps\u2019 commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state”, he said further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Abass disclosed that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations, while efforts continue to apprehend other members of the gang just as he urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to support security agencies with timely and credible information<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
