{"id":4385,"date":"2026-03-20T13:56:22","date_gmt":"2026-03-20T13:56:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/frontlinenewsng.org\/?p=4385"},"modified":"2026-03-20T13:56:27","modified_gmt":"2026-03-20T13:56:27","slug":"osun-nulge-planned-protest-uncalled-for-apc-insists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/frontlinenewsng.org\/?p=4385","title":{"rendered":"Osun NULGE planned protest uncalled for; APC insists"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The planned protest by the Osun State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) scheduled to hold in United Bank for Africa (UBA) branches across the state capital, Osogbo on Monday next week has been declared as ill wind that blows nobody any good by the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The party has therefore alerted security agencies over the alleged planned protest in a<br>statement signed by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, alleging that the leadership of NULGE had directed its branches across local governments to mobilize members for a protest in Osogbo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While noting that the planned protest has the potential of disrupting commercial activities in the affected locations, the party alleged that the planned action was a fallout of a meeting between NULGE leaders and some government officials and that logistics support had been provided for the planned protest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recalling a previous industrial action by NULGE, Osun APC noted that the union had earlier embarked on a prolonged work stoppage in the state, urging the police and other security agencies to remain vigilant and take necessary steps to prevent any breakdown of law and order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The opposition party also called on parents and guardians to caution their wards against participating in activities that could disturb public peace, just as it reiterated that security agencies should closely monitor the situation and act promptly in the interest of public safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The party stated that &#8220;a privileged information sourced from contacts close to the NULGE revealed that the leadership of the labour union in the state has instructed its branches to mobilize 20 staff per local government to embark on destructive protest to the United Bank for Africa (UBA) branches in Osogbo on Monday, 23rd of March, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It is worrisome and disheartening that the leadership of the Osun State chapter of the NULGE could make itself readily available as a willing tool in the hands of desperate politicians&#8221;, adding, &#8220;there\u2019s no plausible reason under the sun why the NULGE should continue to make itself a laughing stock in the estimation of the right-thinking members of the society by even contemplating any protest over the autonomy granted the local government councils nationwide by the Supreme Court judgement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt would do the labour union a lot of good if its leadership can put on their thinking cap and prioritize the actions and inactions that would promote peace in the state.
