Former Deputy Governor of Oyo State and one of the founding fathers of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Barr. Hazeem Gbolarumi has described as high degree of insincerity the usual claim by the governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde that “he has no godfather”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gbolarumi insisted that “there are one or two even more people that God used for his emergence as governor of the state” and “this one of the things I am not happy about and I have discussed with him, I mean his saying that he has no God father in politics. I told him, I don\u2019t believe in that principle”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The former Deputy Governor, who is also aspiring to fly the banner of the PDP as its gubernatorial candidate in the state come next year said it was this same ambition of his that led to the current face-off between him and the governor as the governor also had announced his decision to pick his successor without any consultation with the party in the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Barr. Gbolarumi made this disclosure while playing host to the recently elected Executive Committee of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Oyo State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) led by Comrade Yinka Adeniran in his New Bodija, Ibadan residence and during which an Iftar was held in the spirit of the Ramadan season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the programme which also had in attendance the newly inaugurated executive of PDP faction loyal to Wike, led by its chairman, Prof. Raham Akinoso, Gbolarumi disclosed that his relationship with Gov. Makinde hitherto was quite cordial and that majority of the citizens of the state were surprised and have been wondering at what stage did the fallout between them start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, “the disagreement started when Makinde said he would announce his successor to office without consulting the PDP leaders in the state even though I (Gbolarumi) had signified interest to contest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201dHe is supposed to sit down with PDP leaders in the state for a discussion on it
Look at his sets of Commissioners, SAs and local government chairmen, no input of PDP leaders in those appointments”, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The former Deputy Governor recalled that he was one of the founding fathers of PDP in the state, the platform which Makinde used to become the governor of the state in 2019 and the party leaders were satisfied and accepted God\u2019s decision on Makinde\u2019s emergence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The governor\u2019s decision to produce a successor would block our way, or does he want to perish us politically? What’s really happening between me and the Makinde isn\u2019t really a fight but a fight of political interest”, the politician stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gbolarumi asserted that it would be a sin before God for him not to say the truth to the governor as one of the PDP leaders in the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A core loyalist of the Nyesom Wike’s faction of the party, said PDP would be united soon, addding, “for now, our faction is currently in control and in charge of PDP in the state”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, in his short remark, the Chairman of the Correspondents\u2019 Chapel of NUJ, Oyo State Council, Comrade Yinka Adeniran commended Gbolarumi for his cordial relationship with journalists in the state and pledged continued accurate and fair reportage of issues in the state.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
