President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the deployment of Nigeria\u2019s ambassadors to foreign missions, ending a prolonged wait for diplomatic appointments and assigning prominent figures to key international postings.
Among the notable assignments, former presidential aide Reno Omokri has been designated as Nigeria\u2019s ambassador to Mexico, while former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode will serve as Nigeria\u2019s envoy to Germany.
The comprehensive diplomatic posting, announced on Friday, involves 65 ambassadors who will represent Nigeria in various countries and multilateral organisations across the world. Officials say the deployment is part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria\u2019s diplomatic presence and advance the nation\u2019s foreign policy and economic objectives.
According to the list, Isaac Adewole has been appointed Nigeria\u2019s ambassador to Canada, while former Interior Minister Abdulrahman Dambazau has been posted to China.
Businessman and politician Jimoh Ibrahim will serve as Nigeria\u2019s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, while former Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Lateef Kayode Are, has been assigned to the mission in the United States.
The Presidency disclosed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Nigeria) has commenced the required diplomatic processes with host countries, including requests for agr\u00e9ment\u2014the formal approval required before ambassadors can assume their duties in their respective countries of posting.
Officials explained that while some host nations have already granted preliminary approval, others are expected to conclude the process in the coming weeks.
Before departing for their assignments, the ambassadors-designate will undergo an induction programme organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to prepare them for their diplomatic responsibilities.
The appointments are expected to fill longstanding vacancies in several Nigerian missions abroad and enhance the country\u2019s representation across Africa, Europe, Asia and the Americas.
