Fresh from a resounding re-election triumph, Chairman-Elect of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Maikalangu, has reinforced his grassroots image with the donation of a borehole to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council.
The water project was unveiled on Thursday when leaders of the NUJ FCT Council paid him a congratulatory visit following last Saturday\u2019s municipal elections. The Council Chairman, Comrade Grace Ike, was represented by the Vice Chairman, Yahaya Ndambabo.
Ndambabo hailed the donation as a practical demonstration of Maikalangu\u2019s people-focused leadership and a signal of his commitment to strengthening collaboration with the media.
\u201cThis well-deserved victory reflects your people-oriented leadership, now further demonstrated by this generous donation to the NUJ FCT Council,\u201d he said.
He noted that the chairman-elect\u2019s landslide victory underscored the confidence residents have in his administration, citing infrastructural strides in Sabon Lugbe and other communities during his first term as pivotal to his overwhelming mandate.
Ndambabo also reaffirmed the NUJ\u2019s watchdog and reportage role throughout the elections across AMAC and the five other area councils in the FCT, urging Maikalangu to consolidate on his achievements as he embarks on a fresh mandate.
Responding, Maikalangu expressed appreciation for what he described as the consistent support of journalists across the territory.
\u201cPolitics is local; it is about the people at the grassroots, not just the city centres,\u201d he said. \u201cOur first-term projects laid the foundation for renewed public trust, and we will continue to build on that.\u201d
He attributed his re-election to sustained grassroots engagement, infrastructure renewal, and empowerment programmes that resonated strongly with voters.
The chairman-elect also commended the unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that effective grassroots mobilisation was instrumental in driving the impressive voter turnout.
